The Centre for Sustainability of Journalist Education (CEON) was established to organize and implement various scientific, professional and educational projects and programs for key actors in the journalism education system, lifelong education of journalists, improving scientific and research activities on various topics in the field of journalist education, connecting, organizing and coordinating interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research teams, networking, partnerships and cooperation with similar centres, organizations and institutions, and participating in the development of international and domestic media and educational policies.
The mission of the Centre for Sustainability of Journalism Education, which operates internationally, is to provide holistic support for the sustainable development of journalistic education.
The vision of the Centre for Sustainability of Journalism Education is to become a globally recognizable, internationally strongly networked scientific and professional point of systematic comprehensive support for the sustainable development of journalism education, based on strategic and collaborative practices, educational and research innovation and creativity based on modern digital technology, and quality knowledge transfer, for the development of journalism and society of the future.
The main objectives of the Centre are:
- to provide comprehensive theoretical-conceptual and practical support for the sustainable development of journalism education at the national and international levels
- to promote holistic approach to journalism education
- to encourage, improve and promote scientific research in the field of journalism education studies
- to advocate for systematic higher education and lifelong education of journalists, and the improvement of study programs following the European and Croatian Qualifications Framework
- to develop national and international cooperation with different institutions, establishments, associations, offices, services, centres, partnerships, initiatives and media organisations, as well as with individuals related to journalism education.
The main activities of the Centre are:
- scientific research on the topic of journalist education
- developing and implementing (lifelong) educational programs for journalists, courses, seminars, workshops, etc.
- project collaboration with institutions, centres and individuals
- organisation of scientific and professional lectures, forums, round tables, scientific conferences, symposia, seminars, summer schools, public presentations of publications, etc.
- initiation and involvement in public debates and creation of policies, regulations and strategies related to journalism and the media in Croatia and the EU
- gathering of scientists, university professors, students, researchers, media workers, and experts as well as those who are not directly involved in journalism education but somehow can relate to this topic
- participation in expanding the body of knowledge on journalism education
- advising various stakeholders on journalist education
- popularisation of journalism education.
