The Centre promotes scientific research on the linguistic and intangible cultural heritage of Istria and brings together scholars, university lecturers and researchers working in this field. It conducts fieldwork and collects linguistic, philological-literary, ethnographic, anthropological, philosophical, historical, artistic and musical materials for documentation, analysis and preservation. A central objective is the establishment of a dedicated archive for safeguarding the linguistic and cultural heritage of Istria.

The Centre actively fosters international collaboration and networking with academic institutions and research centres in Croatia and abroad, participating in joint research projects. Research outcomes are disseminated through scholarly publications, conferences, public lectures and presentations, as well as through summer schools, workshops and continuing education programmes for researchers.
