The study programmes of the Department of Croatian are conducted at an undergraduate and graduate level as a single or double major, and in two specializations: teaching (by choosing the Teaching Module) and general.
The double major undergraduate study can be combined with the following studies: Archaeology, English Language and Literature, Japanese Language and Culture, Latin Language and Roman Literature, History, Italian Language and Literature. During the study we prepare experts for work in the fields of teaching, science, publishing, media and culture. We offer work in smaller groups.
During the triennial undergraduate study of Croatian Language and Literature we introduce students to methodologies of scientific work, various theoretical disciplines and the history of language and literature with norms and levels of standard language. Students master skills of written and spoken language, the skill of information management, and have the possibility to work in teams and apply theory to practice. After the triennial study, Bachelors of Croatian Language and Literature can proofread texts, write correctly different texts of practical use, speak and perform publicly.
During the biennial graduate study, we focus on the issues and specifics of Croatian literature with a continuous instruction to acquire additional knowledge about literary history and literary criticism, we also prepare students for theoretical and analytical criticism of content. We help develop skills of written and verbal expression in different situations involving communication, we promote ideas of variety in the standard language with an emphasis on different media and applying theory to practice. After the graduate study, Masters of Croatian Language and Literature can teach in primary and secondary schools (if they chose the Teaching Module), teach Croatian as a foreign language, and work in media and culture, publishing, or they continue their careers on postgraduate and specialist studies.
